We went to the Nashville Zoo today, and it was HOT! I don't care what the weather channel said; when I got home I checked the temperature outside my house and it was 111 degrees in the sun. Yes, you read that right: one hundred and eleven degrees. I believe it, too. The last time I sweated like that was in a hot box yoga class.
Besides the heat, we had a good time. Brennan is finally big enough to get excited about things and even have small dialogues. We talked all morning about which animals he was going to see, and he told me that he was very excited to see elephants and giraffes. So, we hiked to the ends of the earth in extreme heat (all the while I'm pulling Brennan and our gear up a hill in a wagon) so B could see those particular animals. We had already visited the rest of the zoo, and those animals were a great distance away from everything else without any exhibits along the way. It was worth it, though. Brennan was really thrilled to see the giraffes especially, and when it was time to leave the zoo he kept saying, "Bye, Giraffe. Bye!" He even said it as we left the zoo and got in our car.
When Jim got home he was eager to tell him, "Zoo, Daddy!" We had been home from the zoo for about five hours! This is something he has just started doing more. He is really eager to tell Jim things when he gets home from work. Sometimes he tells him what he's doing in that moment: "Help Mommy cook!" or "Brennan reading with Mommy!" But my favorite updates are the ones he gives on things that happened earlier in the day because I know those things must have really stuck with him and meant something.
