A gift from God

A Boy and His Dog

Our routine in the morning has variations, but most of the time Jim takes Annie out just before leaving for work, gives her a few dog biscuits, gathers his things, kisses us good-bye, and Brennan and I sit down and have breakfast. This morning, Jim came in from taking Annie, and as he was trying to kiss Brennan, Brennan kept saying, "Breakfast." I said, "Okay, Brennan. Do you want a waffle and a banana?" Brennan just kept saying, "Breakfast, breakfast," and he seemed very urgent. I was talking to Jim about something for just moments, and when he and I looked over at Brennan, there he was, holding two dog biscuits, eager to give them to Annie. Jim had forgotten to give Annie her breakfast, and Brennan wasn't going to let his dog go hungry! He had opened the closet, unsnapped the container of biscuits, and retrieved them for Annie all by himself. It was so sweet and thoughtful I actually got tears in my eyes. Let nothing come between a boy and his dog!
